Dear Ohio University Staff,

Do you currently have students who are looking for meaningful opportunities after graduation?

Do they want to stay close to Athens and give back to the community?

Advise them to look into COMCorps, an AmeriCorps program housed in OHIO’s Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. COMCorps members serve approximately 38 hours each week in Athens or Washington County, serving at schools, local nonprofits and government agencies.

In return for 1,700 hours of service, members receive a $13,732 living allowance, a $5,920 education award that can be used for past federal loan debt or future educational expenses, and life-changing experiences.

Quotes from recent members include:

“I’ve learned how to become a leader in the work environment. People looked to me for answers, and it made me more confident in my leadership ability.”

~Sammy Jones

“Before COMCorps, my world was at the University. Now, I feel connected to the county of Athens and that I’ve truly made an impact.”

“I’ve always valued the power of empathy and understanding, but now I have the problem-solving skills to be able to create change when someone reaches out for help.”

During their year of service, members GIVE their talents, GROW themselves and SERVE the region TOGETHER as part of a 24-member corps.

COMCorps makes for a great gap year, a way to gain professional experience or a safe place for those graduating who aren’t sure about their next step.

If you are interested in having a current member present to a class or organization, we’d be happy to connect. Reach out to COMCorps Member Coordinator Eric Long longe at ohio.edu<mailto:longe at ohio.edu> or 740-593-0171.

Help them stay a Bobcat and give back to a community that gave so much to them. Our application is currently live and can be found by visiting https://www.ohio.edu/medicine/community-health/commun ity-clinic/programs/comcorps.cfm<https://www.ohio.edu/medicine/community-health/
