Subject: Announcing the Allushuski Graduate Fellowship

The Program in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies is pleased to announce the 2014-2015 Barbara E. Allushuski Graduate Fellowship. The Fellowship honors Ms. Allushuski’s commitment to strengthening the tradition of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Ohio University, as well as providing opportunities for career and leadership development. The Fellowship provides support for up to two outstanding graduate students each academic year.

In keeping with Ms. Allushuski’s commitment to strengthening our program, the conditions of the Fellowship include: 1) contributing to our public presence on campus by offering one public lecture over the course of the academic year; 2) contributing to our educational mission as a graduate student mentor to undergraduates. Specifically, Allushuski fellows are charged with organizing reading/discussion groups for the purpose of bringing together faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students in WGSS; 3) facilitating the mission of fostering an intellectual and activist community by being a regular presence and participant in the activities of WGSS.

Allushuski Graduate Fellows will be awarded $1000 in research support. The award is not intended as an alternative to graduate support from home departments or adjunct teaching in our program. Our hope is to offer this as a supplementary form of support that will facilitate student work and research as part of a community of scholars and activists focused on gender justice.

We invite applications to be submitted to WGS by August 1, 2014. Fellowships will be awarded for the 2014-2015 academic year. Awardees will receive notification of their selection by August 15. We are particularly interested in graduate students whose work speaks to contemporary social and political concerns that are under-represented in our existing curriculum; students whose work has an international focus; or students whose work attends to gender and its intersections with race and ethnicity. We invite applicants from all fields of graduate study. Strong preference will be given to students who have or are in the process of obtaining a graduate certificate in WGSS.
Interested applicants should submit:

• A letter of application outlining the applicant’s research interests and history of relevant course work. The letter should also identify and briefly describe possible public lecture topics and two possible topics for reading groups they might facilitate.

• A copy of transcripts.

• A C.V.
