Research has been a buzz topic among counseling professionals. More specifically discussions of how to use research, the integrity and usability
of research, and how to conduct research have been the focus during the past few years. Research is important to address issues raised by the
curiosity of any counselor who wondered if there was a better way to help those within their school, agency, classroom or counseling practice. What
are the best practices? How can we verify our experience through research that addresses issues in our work? Come and explore the status of counseling research and what is needed to help enhance our profession’s research applicability.

The CSI Leadership and Advocacy webinars are based in CSIs new text, Excellence in Counseling Leadership and Advocacy, edited by CSI leaders Catherine Y. Chang, Casey A. Barrio Minton, Andrea L. Dixon, Jane E. Myers, and Thomas J. Sweeney. This 2011 book is intended as a resource to help incorporate leadership and advocacy training into the counseling curriculum. It identifies the historical context of leadership and advocacy, provides a framework from which to understand these concepts, and provides concrete examples of leadership and advocacy happening in the field today.

In this first leadership and advocacy webinar in our series, Dr. Tom Sweeney, Executive Director and founding president of CSI, provides an overview of essential leadership and advocacy issues for counselors. Following his presentation, CSIs two Leadership Interns, will provide reactions from the perspective of chapter leaders.
