Dear friends,

This is the link to the new video on Good Works. It is about 12 minutes long and tells the story of Good Works through the voice of our four current staff who once lived at The Timothy House when they were without a home. The documentary explores the unique aspects of Good Works through the lens of Ken Weinkauf, Terri Woodson, Jim Todd and Sherilyn Weinkauf.

Please view it, will you?

Intro to the video:
GOOD WORKS

"What Good Works taught me fundamentally was a love and desire to help and serve poor people. That's why I'm here today," said Ken Weinkauf, a former resident of the Timothy House at Good Works, a rural homeless shelter in Athens, Ohio.

Keith Wasserman, executive director and founder remembers, "I started a shelter for people without homes in the basement of my home at the age of 22... it's a lot more doable than people think."

"We ran on zeal and energy and creativity and ingenuity. And yeah, we had lots of risks and problems, but we were filled with joy and gratitude for the opportunity."

Not only does Good Works provide physical shelter for those struggling with poverty in rural Appalachia, but also provides a community of love, a close-knit support system, and a group of people that are willing to listen. "I just do what I can for them. I pray for them when they ask or I offer it, but mostly I just listen to people," says Jim Todd, a former resident of the Timothy House and current manager of Good Works' Transformation Station program.

Sherilyn Weinkauf, along with her husband Ken, came back after their time at the Timothy House to volunteer, then to work at Good Works. "The community here is like an essential part of me now. I've been so much a part of it that I couldn't imagine being without it."

The opportunity for Wasserman to serve the local homeless in 1981 has since turned into a thriving organization that gives people the same opportunity to help their neighbors and transform their lives for good.

The following is also something to ponder...
If you woke up this morning healthy ... you are more blessed than the million who will not survive this week.
If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the fear and loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pain of starvation ... you are better off than 500 million people in the world.
If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead and a place to sleep ... you are more comfortable than 75% of the people in this world.
If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish someplace ... you are among the top 8% of the world's wealthy.
If you can read this, you are more blessed than over two billion people in the world who cannot read at all.
