Position: Shawnee State University is seeking candidates for the position of Counselor-in-Residence (CIR) to begin July 1st, 2017. The CIR position is an opportunity to work with dynamic and passionate clinicians who
specialize in higher education behavioral health and are willing to invest in the professional development of the CIR as a clinician, administrator and presenter.

Responsibilities: The CIR is a 0.7 FTE position which provides clinical hours of service in the university counseling center, after hours programming, on call coverage, supervision of Master’s Interns, and crisis intervention.
The CIR participates in all weekly meetings, clinical staffing and administrative planning of the counseling center. The CIR also provides face-to-face clinical sessions that may range from 2 to 5 clients per day. Additionally, the CIR provides programming
in the form of psychoeducational groups, contained classroom presentations, and training of resident advisors which can fluctuate throughout each semester. In a similar way, the demand for crisis intervention after regular office hours fluctuates widely with
some weeks requiring multiple interventions and other weeks/months requiring no after-hours crisis intervention.

The CIR position is ideal for a Master’s level practitioner working toward independent licensure who desires experience in higher education. If desired, the position can be structured to meet the practicum and internship requirements for
those pursuing a doctorate in counseling.

Salary: The CIR is housed and boarded by SSU in the Residence Halls in lieu of a stipend. The possibility of adjunct teaching and compensation may be discussed separately.

Desirable CIR Qualifications: The CIR will be challenged to develop simultaneously as a clinician and administrator. The CIR is expected to be a professional member of a mental health team that is focused on providing high quality
behavioral health services to SSU students. The SSU culture of care is holistic in nature and utilizes all available resources while honoring student autonomy, encouraging self-efficacy, and promoting physical, psychological and emotional wellness. The
CIR will be required to conduct clinical assessments regarding risk of harm to self and others, provide leadership/direction to other institutional staff (campus police/Residence Coordinators, Resident Advisors, Security) involved in after-hours crisis intervention,
prioritize and manage multiple responders involved in behavioral health crisis in the residence halls, and be comfortable seeking supervision and managing stressful and demanding circumstances. An individual who is flexible and can adapt to scheduling changes
as well as adjust to meet the immediate/evolving needs of the counseling center is highly desirable. A well-suited individual is one who can work both independently and as a member of a team. They should be able to make clinical decisions, exercise common
sense, communicate effectively and consistently with team members, maintain self-awareness, form and maintain good relationships with staff outside of the university counseling center and be accurate and concise in clinical documentation.
