Navigating the School-to-Work Transition: The Lived Experiences of International Counseling Students and Recent Graduates in the United States

Hello Dr. Foreman,

My name is Zhiqi Liu, and I am a doctoral candidate in the Counseling and Counselor Education Program at North Carolina State University. I am recruiting participants for a dissertation study (IRB Protocol: #28940) exploring how international counseling students and recent graduates from CACREP-accredited counseling programs experience the transition from counselor training to counseling-related employment and early professional practice in the United States. I am writing to ask whether you would be willing, if you feel it is appropriate, to share my dissertation study with international students and recent alumni of your counseling program.

Eligibility
Participants must:
• be 18 years of age or older;
• meet one of the following criteria:
○ Current students: be currently enrolled in internships in a master’s-level CACREP-accredited counseling program in the United States and preparing for counseling-related employment, licensure, or professional practice after graduation; or
○ Recent graduates: have completed a master’s-level CACREP-accredited counseling program in the United States within the past two years and have direct first-person experience transitioning from counselor training into counseling-related employment, licensure, or supervised professional practice in the United States;
• have held F-1 student status or J-1 exchange visitor status while enrolled in the qualifying program; and
• be able to participate in an individual Zoom interview conducted in English.

Participation
Interested individuals will complete a brief online eligibility screener. Eligible individuals who are invited to participate will review an electronic consent form, complete a brief demographic and contextual questionnaire, and participate in one 60- to 90-minute Zoom interview. The interview will be video recorded with permission for transcription and accuracy checking. Participants may skip questions, pause, or stop at any time.

Compensation
Participants will receive an Amazon electronic gift card based on their participation in the interview: $100 for completing the interview, $50 for participating for 30 minutes or longer, and $20 for participating for less than 30 minutes. No compensation is provided if a participant withdraws before the interview begins. Compensation contact information will be stored separately from interview data.

Please complete the Eligibility Screener first:
