Dear Students,
My name is Lynn Giang, and I am a doctoral candidate in Counselor Education at Texas Tech University. I am conducting a dissertation research study titled "Professional Identity Development of Southeast Asian Doctoral Students in CACREP-Accredited Programs: A Phenomenological Study.” This study aims to examine the lived experiences of Southeast Asian doctoral students and the factors that influence their professional identity development.
Study Purpose
This research seeks to better understand how cultural background, mentorship, and academic experiences contribute to professional identity formation for Southeast Asian students in CACREP-accredited Counselor Education and Supervision doctoral programs.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify, you must:
* Identify as Southeast Asian (e.g., from Vietnam, the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Brunei, or Singapore).
* Be a current and enrolled as a full-time doctoral student in a CACREP-accredited Counselor Education and Supervision program in the United States.
* Have completed at least 45 or more graduate credit hours of coursework.
Participation Details
Participation involves:
1. Completing a brief online demographic survey to determine eligibility.
2. If eligible, participating in a 50–60-minute virtual individual interview discussing your academic journey, challenges, and support systems.
3. Optionally participating in a 60–90-minute focus group with other Southeast Asian doctoral students.
4. Completing a brief follow-up member-checking process, where you will review a summary of your interview responses to ensure accuracy.
Participation is entirely voluntary, and you may choose to withdraw at any time without any penalty. All data will be presented in aggregate, and individual responses will remain confidential. This research is for educational and scientific purposes only. There are no direct benefits to your participation in this research. We appreciate your time and effort with this research study.
Next Steps
If you believe you meet the criteria and are interested in participating, please complete the Qualtrics survey, which includes informed consent and demographic questions (approximately 5-10 minutes): https://ttuhumansciences.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_b7QgfOWmb4zRrlY
