Harm reduction: A framework for reducing adverse effects of substance use

This workshop aims to provide participants with an understanding of harm reduction through SAMHSA’s 2023 Harm Reduction framework, which includes an overview of the six pillars of harm reduction and the core practice areas along with examples of each. Participants will become familiar with research supporting the efficacy of harm reduction strategies, how stigma impacts health outcomes of people who use substances, and examples of how to implement harm reduction strategies in a variety of settings across the continuum of care. RecoveryOhio’s new Overdose Early Warning Dashboard

Historically, communities have looked to the past to understand drug overdose trends—until now. RecoveryOhio’s new Overdose Early Warning Dashboard<https://click.communications.case.edu/?qs=8296a433406dbcd71b567731675415914f69ea2e3e9a0b8049d497507a79f6dc11289e9191a77eb8f8373a2dd71af0ff926cea52527bad76> draws on a variety of data sources to predict areas at heightened overdose risk, color-coding Ohio regions by five severity levels. By identifying increased risk up to 30 days in advance, the first-of-its-kind tool gives local leaders a critical window to spread awareness, share resources, and intervene when it matters most.

While the opioid crisis has received justified public focus, a quieter crisis continues to threaten communities: Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD). Heavy drinking and alcohol-related deaths have reached record highs in the aftermath of the pandemic, yet AUD screening is still uncommon in many clinical practice settings.
