Dear Counselors-in-Training,

I am a 2nd Year Counselor Education and Supervision Doctoral Student in the Department of Counseling at Idaho State University. I am inviting you to consider participating in my research study entitled “The Role of Deliberate Practice in Counselor-in-Trainings’ Counseling Self-Efficacy”. This research was approved by the ISU Institutional Review Board (IRB-FY2024-223).

Participation criteria include: (1) Currently enrolled in practicum or internship in a CACREP-accredited master’s in counseling program, OR (2) Graduated from a CACREP-accredited master’s in counseling program in the last 6 months

The purpose of this study is to examine the role of Counselors in Training (CIT)’s use of deliberate practice on their counseling self-efficacy by conducting a retrospective quantitative study via an online Qualtrics survey. Participants will be asked to complete a one-time, brief online survey via Qualtrics. This survey will include brief demographic questions followed by items to collect participants’ self‐assessment of time spent on learning activities, learning habits, and counseling self-efficacy. The survey should take approximately 15 minutes to complete. Participation in this online Qualtrics survey research presents no more than minimal risk of harm and involves no procedures for which written consent is normally required outside of the research context. Participant responses to this survey will remain anonymous. This survey research is completely voluntary and at any time, participants may discontinue survey completion.

There is no direct benefit to participants from being in this study. However, engagement in this survey research can provide important insight to CACREP programs regarding how deliberate practice principles can be integrated into curriculum and field experience to enhance CIT’s self-efficacy.

If you are interested in participating, you can access the study via the Qualtrics link: https://isu.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3vEdvIJl5haiTMW
