<Invitation to Students>
Dear counseling students,
Our names are Drs. Sojeong Nam, Olivia Ngadjui, Jeongwoon Jeong, Sam Steen, and Byeolbee Um. We are counselor educators and researchers from The University of New Mexico, Western Michigan University, George Mason University, and The University of Oklahoma.
We are conducting a research study to develop and validate the Multicultural and Social Justice-Oriented Learning Environment Scale (MSJLES), which is funded by the Sponsored Scholarship Program of the Association for Assessment and Research in Counseling (AARC).
You are eligible to participate in this study if you are currently enrolled in a CACREP-accredited counseling program as a graduate student, whether at the master’s or doctoral level.

If you agree to participate, you will complete an online survey on Qualtrics at two different time points. Each survey will take 10 to 15 minutes to complete.
As a token of our gratitude for participating in this study, you will receive a $10 e-gift card upon completing the first survey. After approximately three months, I will follow up with you to request that you complete a second online survey. If you complete this second survey, you will receive an additional $10 e-gift card.
The only potential risk of this study would relate to protecting your personal information. To minimize this risk, no surveys will collect personally identifiable information. The only personal information that will be collected is your email address at the end of the survey if you wish to receive compensation. However, this information will be collected separately from the survey, so it will not be linked with your responses to the main survey. Surveys in Qualtrics can only be accessed by the principal investigator with credentials.

Participating in this research will not benefit you other than compensation. However, it is hoped that the information gained will help develop a theory-based and validated assessment tool, which will contribute to improving and advancing the multicultural and social justice-oriented learning environment of CACREP-accredited counseling programs.

Your decision to be in any study is totally voluntary. If you feel you understand the study and would like to participate, please click the following link: https://survey.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8cWhPXvb50TXawS
If you have questions prior to participating, please contact the principal investigator, Dr. Sojeong Nam (snam at unm.edu<mailto:snam at unm.edu>).
Thank you for your time.
Principal Investigator: Sojeong Nam

Land & Labor Acknowledgement:<https://diverse.unm.edu/about-dei-at-unm/land-labor-acknowledgement.html>
Founded in 1889, the University of New Mexico sits on the traditional homelands of the Pueblo of Sandia. The original peoples of New Mexico Pueblo, Navajo, and Apache since time immemorial, have deep connections to the land and have made significant contributions to the broader community statewide. We honor the land itself and those who remain stewards of this land throughout the generations and also acknowledge our committed relationship to Indigenous peoples. We gratefully recognize our history.

At UNM, we respectfully acknowledge the traumatic history of forced labor of Black Americans who have advanced our country. We are indebted to the enslaved and exploited African Americans who established our U.S. infrastructure and economy, advanced civil rights, and continue to influence popular culture. We are obligated to continuously recognize historic and current systemic oppression and injustices placed on Black Americans. We are grateful to their ancestors; for without them we would not be where we are today.
