Dear Program Coordinator,
I am a 3rd Year Counselor Education and Supervision Doctoral Student in the Department of Special Education, Rehabilitation, and Counseling at Auburn University. I would like to engage your support in recruiting potential participants for my research study entitled “Counselors in Training Perceived Knowledge and Readiness in Child Maltreatment.” Participant inclusion criteria includes the following: (1)Enrolled in a CACREP or recently graduated from an accredited Clinical Mental Health or School Counseling Master’s Program, (2) At least 19 years of age, and (3) Currently in practicum or internship in your counseling program.
The purpose of this study is to examine Counselors in Training (CIT) perceived knowledge and readiness in treating child maltreatment (abuse, neglect, witness to crime, exploitation, trafficking) by conducting a descriptive quantitative study via an online Qualtrics survey.
Participants will be asked to complete a one-time, brief online survey via Qualtrics. This survey will include brief demographic questions followed by items to collect insight on perception of knowledge, importance, confidence, and readiness within child maltreatment. Estimated survey completion time is approximately between 10-15 minutes.
Participation in this on-line Qualtrics survey research presents no more than minimal risk of harm and involves no procedures for which written consent is normally required outside of the research context. Participant responses to this survey will remain anonymous. This survey research is completely voluntary and at any time, participants may discontinue survey completion.
For participant time and effort 100 participants to complete the survey will be awarded $10 e-gift cards via a random drawing. The research survey will be closed once a total of 100 participants complete the research survey. The survey includes an optional separate link providing directions to redeem the $10 e-gift card. Additionally, engagement in this survey research can provide important insight to CACREP programs regarding strengths and needs in preparing future counselors to serve this specific population. The outcomes have potential future implications in coursework, training, and experiential learning.
If you would like to know more information about this study, an information letter can obtained by clicking on the included. This information letter will also be presented to participants once clicking on the study Qualtrics link. If potential participants decide to engage in this research after reading the information letter, they can directly access the Qualtrics survey from an embedded link within the letter.
If you have any questions, please contact me at tdy0003 at auburn.edu or my advisor, Dr. Jinhee Park, at jzp0095 at auburn.edu.
