Counselor Professional Identity is integral to the mission of Chi Sigma Iota - to promote scholarship, research, professionalism, leadership, and excellence in counseling... In our relatively young profession of Counseling, focused, intentional, and continued actions are required to develop and maintain a strong Counselor Professional Identity to protect the public and to continue to maintain the strength and effectiveness of the Counseling profession. In the absence of a strong and recognized clear Counselor Professional Identity, clients are not well-served. Every student, counselor, and counselor educator has a part to play in strengthening Counselor Professional Identity at the individual, organizational, and public levels. Attend this session and take away actionable ideas for how YOU can help!

Learning Objectives:

  *   Participants will review key aspects of Counselor Professional Identity (CPI) and why it matters.

Using the Levels of Advocacy Intervention from the ACA Advocacy Competencies (updated 2018) as a framework,

  *   Participants will learn strategies to strengthen Counselor Professional Identity as individuals.

  *   Participants will learn strategies to strengthen Counselor Professional Identity within systems, i.e., in schools, agencies, communities, and organizations.

  *   Participants will learn strategies to strengthen Counselor Professional Identity through political and legislative advocacy.
