To clarify, I am writing to ask for your help recruiting Ohio University counseling students for a national research study about counseling in 2020.

Counselors and counseling students (master’s or doctoral-level) are in a challenging position in that they are helping others to cope and heal while also coping themselves with the intersection of the COVID-19 pandemic, civil unrest, and ongoing systemic injustice and discrimination including xenophobia, racism, and racial violence. In order to inform strategies to support student counselors and counselors, we want to learn about their personal and professional/academic experiences during 2020, including how those experiences may differ by some aspects of culture, identity, and circumstance.

Thus, we are recruiting counseling students (master’s and doctoral level) and counselors (post-master’s) and to participate in our research study, Counselors and Counseling in 2020. We are writing you to ask if you would be willing to share the research recruitment message below with your counseling students. If you are practicing counselor yourself, we ask if you would also consider participating in the study.

Our Study: In this IRB approved study, we use a secure anonymous online survey to ask participants questions about topics including demographics, COVID-19, injustice and discrimination, current circumstances, basic needs, counseling practice and training, mental health, ambivalence, compassion, stress, secondary trauma, and burnout.

Our Team: Dr. Jamie E. Crockett is an Assistant Professor and Dr. Nathaniel Ivers is an Associate Professor in the Department of Counseling at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Participation: If you are a counselor (post master’s) or a counseling student (master’s or doctoral level), we are asking that you please consider participating in this research study.  If you choose to participate, you will complete an anonymous online survey that will take approximately 15-30 minutes to complete. If you begin the survey and do not wish to complete it, you may discontinue your participation at any time without penalty by closing your browser window.
