Personality Type (MBTI(r)) and Empathy in Counseling Students

Dear Graduate Student:

This email is from Kathleen Kutsko, doctoral candidate in Counselor Education and Supervision at Ohio University. I am seeking your help in completing a study on counseling students, which will fulfill the partial requirements for my PhD. The primary purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between personality type and empathy to understand if personality type can predict empathy. Personality Type will be measured using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (r) (MBTI(r)). Empathy will be measured using the Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI).

I am inviting all Masters and Doctoral level students in CACREP accredited counseling programs to participate. Individually, you may benefit by understanding yourself better, thereby increasing your self-awareness as an individual and as a professional counselor. There are no known risks to participants in this study.

To participate in this study, you must be at least 18 years old and enrolled in a CACREP accredited Counseling Program. The total survey is taking 15 - 25 minutes to complete. It is a seamless process starting with the Qualtrics link to the MBTI website. It is best to complete the survey in one sitting.

Also, Please read all instructions and make note of them. They contain information about using your Qualtrics generated CODE # which is needed once you click the link to the MBTI website to complete the MBTI. The code # is needed to connect your MBTI data with your Qualtrics data. Thanks!

You can withdraw at any time during and after data collection.

All information is confidential and questionnaires will be coded to protect anonymity and
