Dear ACA member,

We are happy to relay the news that a Senate bill was introduced, that would allow Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs) to be reimbursed under Medicare.  S.1879 the "Seniors Mental Health Access Improvement Act of 2017", which was introduced by Senator John Barasso (R-WY) and co-sponsored by Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI).

While we are thankful for the work that all ACA members have done so far in advocating for the introduction of this bill, we now need everyone to contact their Senators and ask them to co-sponsor S.1879 the "Seniors Mental Health Access Improvement Act of 2017". It is an understatement to say this bill has languished in the Congress for far too long. With news breaking every week about rising depression rates among seniors, co-morbidity rates of seniors suffering from chronic illness, and the horrifying opioid epidemic, never has the need for LPCs ever been so prevalent.

Please let your Senator know how important it is for LPCs to be able to serve clients who use Medicare. Share your personal story of why this is important not only for you as a counselor, but for the community you live in. Let your Senator know we can't afford to wait another year to help America's seniors get the help they need!
