Subject: Research Participation Request

Dear Dr. Erby,

My name is Frances Ernst and I am a student in the doctoral program in Clinical Psychology at Albizu University – Miami Campus. For my doctoral project I am conducting a research project under the mentorship of Dr. Jessica J. Ruiz regarding the attitudes of Master and Doctoral level mental health trainees towards individuals with and without mental illness. In this study, participants will be asked to read different vignettes about people, some of which have a mental illness and others who do not, and respond to various questionnaires that assess for students’ experiences with them and attitudes toward them. Some features of this study will not be revealed to students until the research is concluded; however, this is minimal risk research and students will be informed of the need to withhold information in the consent form. In addition, these features will be described to all participants in a debriefing statement upon completion of their participation. This study is conducted online and has been approved by the Institutional Review Board of Albizu University – Miami Campus (IRB#2015-028).

I am writing to respectfully request that you please forward this information to all graduate students in your mental health-focused program(s), including those currently on internship. The student invitation to participate is provided below. The study will take 10 to 15 minutes of their time and as a modest incentive, participants will have the opportunity to enter a drawing for one of ten $20 Amazon gift cards.

I realize that my request is among a number of these you receive every year. Student researchers like me truly appreciate your assistance in contacting students in your program to give them the opportunity to participate in this project.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or would like more details about the study before forwarding the link. Thank you in advance for your time and assistance. If you would like a summary of the results when they become available, please send an e-mail request to fernst214 at sunmail.albizu.edu<mailto:fernst214 at sunmail.albizu.edu> or jruiz at albizu.edu<mailto:jruiz at albizu.edu>.

Sincerely,

Dear fellow graduate student,

My name is Frances Ernst and I am a doctoral candidate in the Clinical Psychology program at the Miami Campus of Albizu University. I would like to invite you to participate in my dissertation research, which is a study that helps understand attitudes and experiences of graduate level mental health trainees. I know you are extremely busy, but I would really appreciate you taking the time to help out a fellow student.

The study is expected to take 10 to 15 minutes. To participate in the project, you need to:

• Be currently enrolled in a Master or Doctoral level mental health program in the United States

• Have access to the Internet

• Be at least 18 years of age
To thank you for participating, you can choose to enroll in a drawing of ten $20 Amazon.com gift cards. If you decide to partake in this raffle, you will be asked to provide your e-mail address and first name upon completion of the study. This information will be collected via a separate link and will not be connected to your responses to the survey questions, which are anonymous and confidential. Please also be aware that you may withdraw from the study at any given time. The following link will guide you to the online survey where you will first learn more about the nature of the study for you to decide whether or not you wish to be part of this research study:
