Congratulations to our latest contest winner!
Art With Impact (AWI) is excited to congratulate Roberto Morelia and his team for the film 'Mental Health Does Not Define Me<http://artwithimpact.us4.list-manage.com/track/click?u=14ac2a5fa3478681f1b75f06f&id=38dec6ab7a&e=aef31b38ec>' which became the latest addition to AWI's OLIVE Film Collection<http://artwithimpact.us4.list-manage.com/track/click?u=14ac2a5fa3478681f1b75f06f&id=2abb23dc2d&e=aef31b38ec> on February 1. The short film interviews Olivia, a student attending California State University San Marcos who manages mental health issues like stress and anxiety. This only a small part of her story, as she shares the importance of reaching out for help and the insight she has today about her experience.

The film was created by six classmates (Roberto Morelia, Megan Escobar, Helena Gulbrandsen, Luis Alfredo Castañeda Saavedra, Casey Staples, and Cameron Johnson) who shared the same communications major at California State University, San Marcos. Originally beginning as a group assignment for a shared class, the project was brought to the next level after solidifying a partnership with the H.O.P.E. and Wellness Center<http://artwithimpact.us4.list-manage.com/track/click?u=14ac2a5fa3478681f1b75f06f&id=59c8d0d6e7&e=aef31b38ec>, a frequent host of our Movies for Mental Health workshops. After meeting with the staff and fellow campus org. Active Minds, they realized just how impactful their project could become. From that point, the film became much more than just an assignment, turning into an opportunity to raise awareness and reduce stigma for mental health- especially among fellow students.

We can't wait to see the impact this film has amongst students and wishes this team all the best in their future filmmaking and change making!

Mental Health Does Not Define Me!

Art With Impact’s monthly film competition awards one winning filmmaker a $1,000 cash prize for a film — up to five minutes in length and of any genre — that uses mental health as the point of interest. Film topics may either be interpretive of mental health, or address it directly. Winning films are added to AWI’s diverse OLIVE film collection, which is used in educational outreach programs.
