Race Relations in Counseling and Counselor Education: Bridging the Gap Through Cultural Advocacy

An AMCD Webinar

Wednesday, February 22, 2017

1pm - 2:30pm (EDT)

Cross-racial relationships in counseling and counselor education are a hot topic in today's changing political environment, yet cross-racial advocacy has largely been ignored in the counseling literature. In this webinar, the panel will examine cross-racial advocacy in counselor education and counseling practice across intersections like regionalism and class. This moderated discussion will explore effective ways to advocate with people of color, as opposed to advocating for people of color in counseling. The panel will share culturally relevant approaches to advocacy, including how to broach topics of race/ethnicity in intersectional contexts. The panel welcomes questions from participants, which can be emailed to julieta.rubio at utsa.edu<mailto:julieta.rubio at utsa.edu> in advance for inclusion in the panel discussion. The webinar is open access. CEUs are offered for active AMCD Members. Moderator: AMCD Past-President, Carlos Hipolito-Delgado, Associate Professor, University of Colorado, Denver
