Subject: Requests for Faculty and Student Research Participants

Dear Dr. Erby,

My name is Margaret Lamar and I, along with Heather Helm, are counselor educators conducting research exploring the researcher development of doctoral students and faculty in Counselor Education and Supervision (CES) programs. We are contacting you because we are interested in interviewing doctoral students and/or faculty in your program to learn more about their development as researchers.

The primary criterion for participation in this study is that the potential participant be a CES doctoral student or faculty member. We are interested in interviewing students and faculty at all stages of professional development. No prior research experience is necessary for participation. We hope to include a wide range of voices and experiences in our research. Therefore, we will ask volunteers to fill out a short questionnaire to ensure a diversity of experiences represented in this study. Depending on the level of interest, we may not be able to select everyone who volunteers to participate. We will, however, contact everyone who volunteers to let them know whether or not they were selected for the study at this time.

Participants will be asked to take part in two individual interviews. Those selected will be contacted to schedule an in-person interview, lasting approximately one hour. The first interview will take place in a commonly accepted educational setting or in a setting of the participants’ preference but which also protects participant confidentiality. The interviews will be held in person, over the phone, or videoconference, depending on the location of the researcher and the participant. A second interview, lasting approximately 30 minutes, will be scheduled following the first interview.

Please consider forwarding this to students and faculty in your program. Those interested in participating, can fill out the questionnaire here: https://paloaltou.co1.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_0x29vygpcIaPmBv.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.

Thank you for your consideration,

Margaret Lamar, Ph.D., mlamar at paloaltou.edu<mailto:mlamar at paloaltou.edu>
