Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor Intern

Employment Opportunities:  The Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry, Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, is recruiting to fill vacancies throughout the Commonwealth for Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor Intern. There are six current vacancies as follows:  two each in Dauphin and Montgomery Counties, and one each in Luzerne and Washington Counties.

Nature of Work:  This is professional training in a structured 16-week internship. This internship will enable you to acquire knowledge and experience in the areas of federal law and regulation concerning vocational rehabilitation services, state policy and procedure, and counseling and case management. You will be supervised by a Vocational Rehabilitation Supervisor, who will evaluate how well you provide case services to customers with disabilities. You may be able to receive academic credit for completion of the internship program. The number of credits granted will be determined by each participating university.

If you successfully complete the internship and obtain your graduate degree, you will then serve an additional two months as an Intern to complete your probationary period, and then be promoted to Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor 1 with an increase in salary.

In order to be considered for Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor Intern, applicants must be enrolled in the final year of a master’s degree program in rehabilitation counseling, rehabilitation education, or rehabilitation administration.

Necessary Special Requirement: At the time you apply, you must have authorization from your college or university to participate in the Commonwealth’s Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor Intern Program.  At the time you apply, you must be enrolled in the final year of a master’s degree program in rehabilitation counseling, rehabilitation education, or rehabilitation administration.  At the time you start the internship, you must be enrolled in the final semester of the appropriate master’s degree program.

Pennsylvania residency is NOT required.

Salary:  $18.08/hour
