Invitation to participate in survey on spiritual/religious integration in counseling

My name is Jennifer Park, and I am inviting you to participate in a study about assessing spiritually competent practice in mental health training. Currently, I am a candidate in Regent University's Counselor Education and Supervision doctoral program and am conducting this research for my dissertation.

If you are enrolled as a counseling, psychology, or social work graduate student at an accredited institution (CACREP, APA, CSWE), who has completed at least one semester of practicum or internship, you are eligible to complete an online survey that includes a demographic questionnaire and the Revised Spiritual Competency Scale II (SCS-R-II; Robertson, 2011) and Spiritual and Religious Competency Assessment (SARCA; Fluellen, 2009). The survey can be accessed by clicking the link below and may be completed within 5-10 minutes.

As a thank you for your time and effort, two participants will be randomly selected and given a $50 gift card to Amazon.com. After the survey has been completed, you will have the opportunity to submit your name and email address for the drawing. Please know that your participation in this study is completely VOLUNTARY and CONFIDENTIAL. Your name and email address entered for the drawing will be stored in a separate data file from survey responses. Thus, your answers on the survey will not be associated in any way with your email or program, and the list of names will be destroyed immediately following the drawing. The data from this research will be stored in a private computer with password protection. Regent University's Human Subjects Review Committee (HSRC) reviewed the study and approved it in February 2015.

There are no anticipated risks to this study except for the possibility of slight discomfort reflecting on personal values regarding spirituality and religion. Potential benefits include gaining awareness of spiritual wellness and competence and promoting a holistic model of care with multicultural competence attending to spiritual diversity issues. Further, your contribution will enable educators to meet students' needs towards the efficacy and training of mental health professionals. At any time, you may discontinue participation in this study. If you have any questions, please contact Jennifer Park at jenntep at mail.regent.edu<mailto:jenntep at mail.regent.edu>. The faculty advisor overseeing this dissertation research is Dr. Kathleen Arveson. She may be reached by email at katharv at regent.edu<mailto:katharv at regent.edu>.

By clicking the link below or copying and pasting into your browser, you signify your voluntary participation and informed consent to use your results in this project.

Thank you very much for your time and effort in completing this survey. Your contribution will benefit professionals in higher education meet mental health students' needs.

Sincerely,
Jennifer Park, MA, MS Ed
