Friends,

I write in the HOPE that you will come or support the 13th annual Good Works WALK scheduled for Saturday February 21st in Athens.
Registration for the WALK begins at 8:30 am at The First UMC Church on College Street (across from the parking garage). Free parking is available on floors 4-6.

We have four WALK experiences planned this year:

1. WHAT ITS LIKE TO BE HOMELESS: A simulated experience ( about 1/2 mile each way)

2. THIS IS LIFE: What are we born into that is out of our control?  (about 1/2 mile each way)

3. HOW THE TIMOTHY HOUSE WORKS: Good Works beginnings and 34 year journey (about 1 mile each way)

4. THE MINI WALK: A panal discussion on community responses to poverty.  (less than 500 feet each way)


All WALKS are intended to be an educational experience for adults and children of all ages; and are not focused on distance. MOST of the WALKS are relatively short this year.


ALL THE WALKS leave from and return to the First United Methodist Church for a free rice and beans lunch from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm. Reflections from WALK participants will be shared.


If you are not able to participate, would you consider contributing to help us reach our financial goal of $60,000.00 for the Good Works Timothy House? This goal accounts for about 1/3 of the total funding we need to provide warm and safe shelter to 150-225 adults and children and operate The Timothy House this year. Good Works continues to provide the only shelter for people without homes in 8 counties. In 2014, nearly 500 different people called us seeking a place to stay.
