I want to take a few minutes to personally write you and let you know that the FGCU Counseling Department is currently undergoing a search for a faculty member in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Master's program.

Please forward this communication to any doctoral students in your program who might be a viable candidate and interested in coming to Southwest Florida.

About the Department of Counseling

The Department of Counseling (http://fgcu.edu/) is a newly formed and dynamic unit with programs in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and in School Counseling (for both certified teachers and those new to the teaching profession.)  As one of six academic units within the College of Health Professions and Social Work, Counseling offers an MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and an MA or MED in School Counseling.  All programs are CACREP accredited and programs preparing School Counselors enjoy Florida DOE approval.  Moreover, the School Counseling programs are accredited by NCATE through FGCU's College of Education.  Recently migrated from the College of Education, the Department of Counseling is looking forward to expanding its course and array of offerings to add certificate programs and eventual degrees in the next five years.  Faculty in the Department offer expertise in the following areas: clinical mental health and school counseling, accountability, technology in counseling, legal and ethical applications, working with persons in crisis, clinical supervision, and a variety of therapeutic/intervention modalities. Florida Gulf Coast University

Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Assistant Professor, Req. #2162

Minimum Qualifications
Doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision or closely related field from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent accreditation; or Doctoral degree in Counseling or related field from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent accreditation with documented full-time Counseling faculty experience. ABD from CACREP accredited doctoral programs will be considered if degree is conferred by August 7, 2015. If successful candidate is ABD, appointment will be made at a Lecturer level on a fixed contract.

Preferred Qualifications
Two (2) years teaching experience at the University in a graduate counseling program. Experience with CACREP accreditation. Experience teaching online/distance education courses. Expertise or certifications in one or more interest areas: Marriage and Family Counseling; working with Trauma/Crisis/Abuse/Addictions counseling. Evidence of scholarship in the field.

General Summary Statement
Your initial assignment will include teaching, at both undergraduate and graduate levels, as applicable; course and/or curriculum development; research/scholarship; involvement on College and University committees and/or initiatives; as well as duties as assigned. Florida Gulf Coast University is a comprehensive university dedicated to quality education, research, and service. All faculty are expected to be excellent teachers, responsive to changing professional needs; committed to innovative delivery of instruction resulting in improved student learning; committed to effective use of technology including distance learning; produce peer reviewed scholarship; and provide service to the College, University and Community. Teaching assignments may be on the main campus or at off-campus sites within our region.

Duties
Teaches courses and engages in clinical supervision at the graduate level(s); assignment will primarily be clinical mental health counseling with some courses in school counseling as appropriate. Teaches in distance formats or Hybrid formats will be expected as well as expectations of developing and pursuing a scholarship agenda; service activities to the Department, College, University, Community, and Profession; mentors students in practicum/internship experiences. Participates in program/curriculum development, admissions, and program review, accreditation and continuous improvement activities.

Review of materials begins on November 12, 2014. Anticipated start date is August 7, 2015. Appointment will be made on a 12-month multi-year appointment basis available August 2015.

Salary
Salary is competitive & commensurate with experience.
