Assistant Professor of Rehabilitation Counseling
Fall 2014
Full Time, Tenure-Track Position

The mission of the Department of Administration, Rehabilitation and Post-Secondary Education is to develop exceptional leaders in diverse educational and human service organizations using innovative and effective learner opportunities and cross-functional strategic alliances.

The Department offers graduate degrees leading to a Master of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling, a Master of Arts in Education with a concentration in Educational Leadership (Postsecondary), a Master of Arts in Education with a specialization in Leadership in Student Affairs, a doctorate in Educational Leadership (Ed.D.) with a focus on Community College/Postsecondary Education Leadership; and graduate certificates in Rehabilitation Administration, Rehabilitation Technology, Transition and Supported Employment, Psychiatric Rehabilitation, Cognitive Disabilities, and Workforce Education.

The Department includes the Interwork Institute, whose mission is to enable individuals, organizations and communities to support, appreciate, and engage diverse members, including persons with disabilities, in community integration through education, research, and advocacy.

The essential job responsibilities for this faculty position include:

1) teach on-campus and distance graduate level courses in the CORE-accredited graduate program in Rehabilitation Counseling which may include medical and psychological aspects of disability, research, practicum or internship, grant writing, and/or other approved rehabilitation courses;

2) teach and work with students in other degree and certificate programs in the Department including research in education, education to work transition and/or leadership in student affairs or community colleges/postsecondary education;

3) teach a combination of at least three lecture and/or clinical courses per academic semester;

4) demonstrated continued professional development including obtaining and managing extramural support for one's research agenda, collaboration with colleagues, and the Department and Institute initiatives, and maintain an active research, publication, and program development agenda;

5) participate in program governance at the Department, College, and University levels through committee participation, as well as contributions to rehabilitation and related professional organizations at the local, state, and national levels; and

6) provide advising and mentoring of graduate students in rehabilitation counseling and selected students in other degree and certificate programs in the Department.

Required criteria for all applicants include:

1) an earned doctoral degree from an accredited university in rehabilitation or closely related area including leadership studies (one of the two graduate degrees must be in rehabilitation);

2) possess or be in the process of applying for the "Certified Rehabilitation Counselor" (CRC) certificate;

3) demonstrated on-campus and/or distance teaching in either undergraduate or graduate education); and

4) demonstrated scholarship though publications and presentations of research and other professional papers relevant to the field of rehabilitation, leadership, education and/or disability studies.

Preferred criteria for all applicants include:

1) demonstrated success, creativity, and leadership in rehabilitation, postsecondary and/or community programs that serve diverse and underrepresented groups;

2) experience in working with individuals and communities from diverse backgrounds, including non-traditional adult learners and community college students;

3) demonstrated a strong commitment to diversity and multicultural education in rehabilitation education;

4) demonstrated ability to teach medical and psychosocial aspects of disability and research courses experience obtaining and/or serving as a staff member or principal investigator in grant and contract funded efforts;

5) demonstrated ability to use distance education and instructional technology in the development and delivery of online and/or hybrid courses;

6) experience in obtaining and/or serving as a staff member or principal investigator in grant and contract funded efforts;
7) demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students and community partners;

8) demonstrated commitment and ability to build relationships and work effectively with community and consumer organizations, particularly those associated with the public program of rehabilitation; and

9) experience in conducting state vocational rehabilitation needs assessment projects

Interested faculty applicants are asked to submit a letter of intent, a current vitae, samples of teaching materials, teaching evaluations, at least one scholarly publication and at least three professional references. Applications will be reviewed starting on or shortly after November, 2013 with the anticipated start date of August 15, 2014.
