Criteria Changes in Effect with July 2014 CRC Exam
Based on empirical research from the 2011 Role and Function Study, including recognition of how graduate RCE courses are currently taught, CRCC has made several changes to the eligibility criteria for CRC certification effective with the July 2014 CRC Exam.
Eligibility criteria changes specifically impact students pursuing doctorate degrees and taking courses to qualify for the CRC Exam under Categories E and J.
SPECIFIC CHANGES
CHANGE #1: Broadening the course requirement for Theories and Techniques of Counseling.
Current Requirement: One graduate course on Theories and Techniques of Counseling
New Requirement: One integrated graduate course on Theories and Techniques of
Counseling
OR
One graduate course on Theories of Counseling AND one graduate course on Techniques of Counseling
Categories Affected: D, E, J, K, R
CHANGE #2: Recognizing the need for knowledge on both medical AND psychosocial PLUS expanding cultural aspects/issues beyond disability.
Current Requirement: One graduate course on Medical or Psychosocial and Cultural
Aspects of Disability
New Requirement: Two or three graduate courses with the individual or combined
primary focus on
1) Medical Aspects of Disability;
2) Psychosocial Aspects of Disability; AND
3) Multicultural Issues.
Categories Affected: D, E, J, K, R
Complete details on eligibility requirements, including new course descriptions (Section 5), are in the new CRC Certification Guide, effective with the July 2014 CRC Exam.
