The Counselor Education Program in the College of Education's Educational and Human Sciences Department at the University of Central Florida invites applications for the following position:  Assistant Professor (tenure-track).


Description: The Counselor Education Program is seeking a dynamic individual with a strong background in teaching, research, and service. Duties include teaching graduate-level counseling courses, supervising practicum and internship students, and conducting research. The potential start date is August 2013.

University Background:  The University of Central Florida is a major metropolitan research university, providing the academic core for central Florida. The multi-campus university enrolls approximately 59,700 students and is the fastest growing university in Florida. The main campus is located in northeastern Orlando, a growing diverse community of nearly 2 million people. Regional campuses are located in Volusia, Brevard and Lake Counties, with many additional sites in the central Florida region. UCF provides academic leadership for the central Florida region through strategic partnerships with public and private sector organizations and corporations. It also has met all of the criteria for the Carnegie classification of RU/VH: Research Universities (very high research activity) and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

The College of Education employs about 130 full-time faculty members serving approximately 5,600 students in 12 undergraduate programs and 25 graduate programs. The College is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).



Department Information: The Department of Educational and Human Sciences provides programs in Counselor Education & School Psychology, Higher Education & Policy Studies, Research, Measurement & Evaluation, and Instructional Design & Technology.

Program Information:  The Counselor Education Program offers Master's Degree programs in School Counseling, Mental Health Counseling, and Marriage and Family Therapy; the Educational Specialist Degree in School Counseling; certificate programs in Marriage and Family Therapy, Play Therapy, and Career Development; and Ed.D. and Ph.D. Degrees in Counselor Education and Supervision. The School Counseling, Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Counseling, and Ph.D. Degrees are accredited by CACREP. Minimum Qualifications: Minimum qualifications for consideration include an earned doctorate from an accredited institution in Counselor Education by time of employment (ABD will be considered as long as doctorate is completed by hire date). Candidates must have a specialization in one or more areas appropriate to the program degree offerings and have experience in graduate-level teaching and supervision.

Preferences: Preference will be given to candidates (a) graduating from a CACREP-accredited doctoral program; (b) with school, mental health counseling, and/or marriage and family counseling preparation/experience; (c) with an interest and evidence of productivity in scholarly research; (d) with active membership(s) in professional counseling organization(s),  (e) with expertise in research methods and student development, and (f) with successful evidence of university teaching experience in Counselor Education or related discipline.
