As many of you know, the OSCA Standards Committee has been working to develop an evaluation system for Ohio's school counselors.  I'm contacting you today to let you know we have completed a very important, first step - the Standards for our Profession and the Evaluation rubric!  Both have been posted on our homepage at www.ohioschoolcounselor.org<http://www.ohioschoolcounselor.org/EmailTracker/LinkTracker.ashx?linkAndRecipientCode=sb0nxNDRwoE85%2fsfWlwNdAlmehyBmN8Tg8ckkX7uge9lKpJQEB6j%2fQd3L7pi5jwrWXwZqB02vWw%2b45h4cabBf9oR6IzPU%2ftIyHumsCdWQHw%3d> under the OSCA Spotlight.  Please take a moment to review them and provide any feedback you have, either typographical, or substantive to me, Susie Boggs at advocacy at ohioschoolcounselor.org<mailto:advocacy at ohioschoolcounselor.org>.  Changes will be reviewed and incorporated as appropriate, and the final draft will be put up for approval by the Governing Board at our next meeting on April 19th.

Some things to bear in mind as you peruse these documents:

 *   The Committee was careful to model the look and feel of the OTES model currently being piloted - we wanted to make sure that our work would fit right in with the requirements of the new evaluation systems for Ohio.
 *   The Committee used the ASCA National Model, as well as evaluation systems from several states including Texas, North Carolina, West Virginia, and Massachusetts.
 *   The final package will be available via the website and OEA by May 30th, and will include:

    *   Narrative including the role of the school counselor, the conditions which best allow school counselors to provide programming to meet the needs of their students and the evaluation procedures.
    *   The Standards and Evaluation Rubric
    *   Glossary of Terms
    *   ASCA Ethical Code
    *   ASCA Student Standards
    *   Form templates for all phases of the process
You have the standards and rubric for evaluation to present to your administrators, association representatives, etc.  Any changes should be fairly minor, and the approved documents will be placed on our website on April 23rd.  Also, this email blast is being sent to all current members - if you know others who are interested in this information, please forward it on.  You do not need to be a member of OSCA to access these documents from the Homepage.

It is our sincere hope that this new system will finally allow school counselors to be evaluated on the job we do, as well as provide a wonderful advocacy tool.  I want to personally thank you for your support and patience and for all you do everyday for Ohio's children!  I look forward to hearing from you!
