POSITION DESCRIPTION
TENURE TRACK, DEPARTMENT OF COUNSELING
MASTER OF SCIENCE IN REHABILITATION COUNSELING TRAINING PROGRAM
FALL 2012

The Department of Counseling at San Francisco State University is a large, comprehensive counselor education program with 8 full-time equivalent faculty and over 200 students.  The Department offers six counseling specialty areas:  Rehabilitation, School, Marriage and Family, College, Career, and Gerontology.  The Department is accredited by CORE, CACREP, CCTC, and NCATE. San Francisco State University is a comprehensive institution located in a diverse and international urban setting. The University serves a multi-cultural student body of approximately 29,000 and offers more than 200 degree programs. Excellence in teaching is the faculty’s primary mission, although research/scholarship/creative work and service to the community are high priorities. The University seeks to provide a climate for learning that promotes appreciation of scholarship, freedom, and human diversity. SFSU is one of 23 campuses in the California State University system.

Rank:  Assistant Professor
Salary: Commensurate with experience.
Start Date:  Fall 2013.
Application Review Period:  October 15, 2012 until filled

Minimum Requirements:

 *   An earned doctorate in Rehabilitation Counseling Education, Rehabilitation Psychology, or a related field
 *   Evidence of or potential for scholarly productivity
 *   Evidence of or potential for university teaching excellence in specialty and general counseling courses
 *   Ability to supervise clinical work and advise graduate counseling students
 *   Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC)

Desired Qualifications:

 *   Rehabilitation counseling experience and experience working with persons with disabilities
 *   Teaching experience
 *   Knowledge of Council on Rehabilitation Education (CORE)
 *   Potential for program and/or departmental leadership
 *   Experience in grant writing or grant development
 *   Demonstrated dedication to multicultural education and social justice (e.g., GLBT, ethnic groups, social class, and disability status)
 *   Scholarship (e.g., publication, research, grants) in areas relevant to rehabilitation counseling/psychology

Responsibilities:

 *   Teach rehabilitation and general counseling courses as well as advise graduate students
 *   Participate in service and committee work at the departmental and university levels as well as professional organizations  and conferences
 *   Engage in scholarly activity (e.g., research, publications, grants)
 *   Take leadership role within the department including coordinating the rehabilitation counseling program
