Invitation:
The National Technical Assistance Partnership (NTAP) @ George Washington University, the University of Arkansas CURRENTS and pepnet 2 invite workshop proposals for its training forum February 25-27, 2013. Any person whose work affects the described target population is welcome to submit a proposal. Although this training forum will include both workshops and plenary sessions, this is an invitation for workshops that will be held concurrently. Each workshop presentation will be one-hour and fifteen minutes in length.  The deadline for submitting a proposal is November 2, 2012.
Requirements for Submission:   Please note we are unable to attach the proposal submission form, which is a word document in this message. At the end of this email you will find the Call for Papers proposal outline. As requested, please copy and paste this information into a word document and then answer all the proposal questions. We apologize for any inconvenience.

The Proposal Submission Form must be submitted by November 2, 2012.  Send the form (preferably as a Word attachment) via e-mail to Pat Tomlinson at mandalay at comcast.net<mailto:mandalay at comcast.net>. Training Forum Goals
The major goal is to promote employment opportunities for individuals who are Deaf, Deaf-Blind, Hard of Hearing and Late Deafened. This training forum will provide training and networking opportunities for State Coordinators of the Deaf, Deaf-Blind, Hard of Hearing, and Late Deafened. Additionally, Vocational Rehabilitation professionals who work with the target population, professionals from community based agencies providing similar services, and leaders of consumer organizations are invited to participate. One hundred twenty-five to two hundred participants are expected to be in attendance. These persons represent Vocational Rehabilitation agencies nationally, which serve more than 35,000 persons with hearing loss annually.

Training Forum Objectives
1.        To provide a training forum for Vocational Rehabilitation professionals to discuss provision of services to consumers who are Deaf, Deaf-Blind, Hard of Hearing and Late Deafened. The forum will share information on current and future issues in Vocational Rehabilitation services needed to achieve positive employment outcomes.
2.        To showcase effective State Programs through presentations by State Coordinators of the Deaf, Deaf-Blind, Hard of Hearing, and Late Deafened.
3.        To build and enhance current networking and collaborative efforts between rehabilitation professionals who work with issues on provision of services to consumers who are Deaf, Deaf-Blind, Hard of Hearing, and Late Deafened.
 Workshop Priority Areas:
* Note- Presentations can focus on hearing loss generically, or be specific to a subpopulation of deaf, deaf-blind, hard of hearing, late-deafened.

Overcoming employment barriers for consumers with hearing loss:

Innovative employment programs & practices:

 *   Supported employment models;
 *   Employment trends & impact;
 *   Models for youth in transition.
 *   Addressing shortage of job developers qualified to serve sub-populations of consumers with hearing loss.

Workplace access & diversity:

 *   Addressing differences in accessibility needs of sub-populations of consumers with hearing loss;
 *   Needs & cultural implications of serving minority consumers with hearing loss;
 *   Serving baby boomer & aging consumers with hearing loss;
 *   Overcoming language barriers of ESL persons;

Advocacy & Inclusion:

 *   Empowerment strategies;
 *   Strategies to enhance informed choice for consumers with hearing loss.
 *   Accessing specialized services- e.g.- mental health; substance abuse.

SCD Tools & Models:

 *   Assessment & strategic planning strategies to enhance VR program diversity & accessibility;
 *   Leadership development, mentoring, & succession planning;
 *   Staff development models for SCDs and RCDs;
 *   Training programs for SCDs & RCD/HH/LD/DBs;
 *   Program evaluation impact on quality programs & services;

Technology:

 *   One-stop shopping for technology;
 *   Emerging assistive technology & its impact;
 *   Innovative technologies for specific occupations.

Presenter/Presentation Requirements

 *   Presenters will be required to provide an electronic version of handouts and/or multimedia presentation prior to the training forum. Participants will be provided with a web address where they may download digital versions of their materials prior to the training forum. Accepted workshop presenters will receive detailed accessibility guidelines and instructions for submitting digital versions of handouts. Presenters must submit these materials by January 25, 2013.
More detailed accessibility guidelines and instructions for submitting digital versions of handouts will be provided to presenters along with notification of acceptance.

 *   On-site presentation materials and handouts must be accessible to persons with disabilities. Captioned videos, scripts for auditory materials, large print, diskette or DVD, and Braille copies are required.

 *   If you are demonstrating technology as a part of your presentation, you must bring it yourself.

 *   Prior to your presentation, you may be contacted by interpreter /CART service(s) to ask questions about these accommodation needs for your specific presentation. The email address of the lead person for your presentation will therefore be made available to the interpreter/CART service provider
