> The University of Texas-Pan American (UTPA) seeks applications to fill the Department Chair position of the Department of Rehabilitation. The rank commensurate with the position would be Associate or Full Professor.*

> The University of Texas-Pan American is located in Edinburg, TX, 15 miles from the Texas/Mexico border and one-hour away from tropical South Padre Island. UTPA is a comprehensive regional university with an enrollment of 19,000 students. The Department of Rehabilitation has BS, MS (CORE accredited) and Ph.D. degree programs and has two undergraduate specialty tracks in the area of Addictions Studies and Concentration in Services to Individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. Currently, the program has over $3 million in U.S. Department of Education grants including 3 Long-term Training grants and 1 Capacity Building grant. The Department currently has 19 full-time faculty positions with 13 tenured or tenure track faculty.

> QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates for the position must have a doctorate in Rehabilitation Counseling or a closely related field. The chair is expected to have the skills to direct and coordinate the academic, operational, personnel, budgetary, and student-oriented activities of the department. Given the leadership role, the chair is expected to have the skills to serve as a role model and source of knowledge for faculty, students, and staff.

> The chair is expected to have the ability to participate in college governance and on UTPA committees as required and to represent the department, college, and/or university. The chair is expected to have skills in teaching courses, conducting scholarly activities, and obtaining external funding. Successful applicants will work effectively with a variety of people throughout the organization and external to the University. The position requires the ability to administer the fiscal affairs of the department and to allocate resources of the department in accordance with University rules and procedures in order to meet department goals and objectives. Evidence of commitment to research, strong teaching background, and CRC or CRC eligibility is required.

> PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience assigning, facilitating, and evaluating the work of the faculty and staff. Experience of mentoring developing scholars. Initiate and supervise the faculty promotion and tenure process. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills. Knowledge of administering the financial affairs of the department. Knowledge of current state and federal grant-related regulations and attainment of external funding. History of interdisciplinary collaboration and research. Experience with program evaluation and ongoing curricular revisions based on assessment outcomes; and direct the recruitment, retention, advising, and timely graduation of students.

> Full Professor: Requirements for Full Professor include, beyond those required above: (1) scholarly professional experience demonstrated through an exemplary record of, teaching, publication in peer-reviewed journals, and external funding to meet the institutional requirement for the rank of Full Professor, and (2) demonstrates a distinguished record of accomplishment that leads to an international or national reputation in the field of rehabilitation and (3) must be CRC.
