Associate/Professor of Rehabilitation Counseling
in the School of Education and Human Performance
Winston-Salem State University (WSSU), a historically Black, regional, comprehensive, liberal arts university is one of the 17 constituent institutions of the University of North Carolina. Located in the Piedmont Triad, university enrolls approximately 6,000 students, employs more than 400 full time faculty members, offers 42 undergraduate programs and 10 graduate programs. WSSU is seeks an energetic and dynamic individual to serve as an Associate/Professor in rehabilitation counseling program in the School of Education and Human Performance and Sports Sciences. The position is a tenured or untenured Associate/Professor of Rehabilitation Counseling in the School of Education and Human Performance. Tenure may be awarded after the candidate's credentials have been reviewed through the University's established procedure.

Duties: include teaching graduate courses in rehabilitation courses on campus and/or through distance education (online); supervise practicum and internship students; serve as academic and thesis advisor to graduate students; maintain an active program of research, publication, and sponsored research; participate in department, college and community service; work with a diverse faculty and student population; engage in distance education and course development via a variety of distance delivery modes. Teaching assignments will depend on department needs and individual expertise. However, regardless of the teaching assignments, the individual in this position will be expected to mentor Rehabilitation Counseling faculty and graduate students in their professional growth and development.

Required:



*         Doctorate in Rehabilitation Counselor Education or related field from regionally accredited institution

*         CRC required

*         Must be eligible for LPC license in the state of North Carolina within a year

*         Evidence of scholarly publications at Associate for Full Professor level

*         Evidence of sponsored research or support for scholarship or expertise by relevant industry

*         Evidence of ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to accomplish organizational goals

*         Evidence of online teaching experience

*         Evidence of ability to use instructional technology and distance education modes

*         Experience providing clinical supervision to counseling trainees

*         Experience of mentoring graduate students and faculty in scholarly activities

*         Teaching experience at master's level with at least 10 years of experience for Professor or 5 years of experience for Associate Professor

*         Five years or more of work experience with clients/consumers with disabilities

*         Evidence of successful grant writing and grant management



Preferred qualifications (additional qualifications):

*         Experience working with two or more of the following areas:

o   experience in the State-Federal Vocational Rehabilitation system,

o   private rehabilitation,

o   rehabilitation administration,

o   school to work transition,

o   deafness,

o   psychiatric rehabilitation, or

o   substance abuse;

*         Evidence working with multicultural student and client populations

*         Leadership in professional organization

*         Reputation as recognized scholar and/or teacher in field

*         Experience with learning or program outcomes and accreditation

*         Record of service higher education and professional

*         Meets WSSU requirements for tenure as professor
