POSITION TITLE: Assistant/Associate Professor of Counseling
DEPARTMENT: Human Development and Services

DEPARTMENT/PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
The Department of Human Development and Services, is seeking to hire an Assistant/Associate Professor to teach within the Masters of Rehabilitation Counseling Program.

The Department of Human Development and Services (HDSV) at North Carolina Agricultural land Technical State University is housed in the School of Education. We offer multiple graduate programs and are pleased to serve students from across North Carolina and the United States. Although many participants are enrolled in full-time graduate study, the Department welcomes practicing professionals who choose to pursue their studies on a part-time basis. Course work in the Department is generally offered in the evenings to accommodate the professional development needs of our adult learners.

The objective of the Department of Human Development and Services is to prepare individuals for professional roles in Adult Education, Counseling, and School Administration. As such, all departmental studies are grounded in philosophical, theoretical, methodological, and practical foundations that describe adult education, counseling practice, or leadership. In addition, the department emphasizes the importance of multiculturalism, assessment, and social justice. Using the most current teaching technologies and adult learning theories, course content is delivered in a variety of in-person, hybrid, and online modalities. HDSV prepares students to be critical thinkers in a global society. Student leadership skills are cultivated through a combination of mentoring, student organizations, service learning experiences, and community partnerships. 

Departmental graduates pursue professional careers within a variety of human service settings, including, but not limited to, schools, higher education, public and private counseling centers, rehabilitation agencies, community development organizations, non-profit agencies, private corporations, clinical mental health agencies, and university extension programs. Students are also prepared and encouraged to continue their education through doctoral work in their respective fields.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 *   The position requires teaching CORE and CACREP-required general and behavioral addictions courses, advising master’s level students, and supervising interns.
 *   The position also requires producing scholarly publications; grant writing, using technology within counseling courses, and providing service to the profession. The position will also require some teaching in the doctoral program.
 *   This is a 9-month tenure track position. Summer employment may be available.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 *   The position requires an earned doctorate in rehabilitation counseling or a related field and a minimum of three years of teaching or clinical experience.
 *   Experience in the addictions field is also preferred.
 *   CRC certification is required.
 *   Rehabilitation counseling experience and coursework are preferred.
