Subject: Doctoral Program announcement

Greetings All,

Doctor of Education in Counselor Education and Supervision
Governors State University

The Doctor of Education program in Counselor Education and Supervision at Governors State University is seeking applicants to join its Fall 2013 Cohort. Governors State University is seeking motivated students who are seeking an advanced degree in Counselor Education and Supervision to become part of a growing doctoral program.

Governors State University counseling program is housed within the College of Education. Governors State University has three CACREP accredited Masters programs in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Marriage, Family and Couples Counseling, and School Counseling. The Doctor of Education in Counselor Education and Supervision is under final review for CACREP accreditation. The Illinois Board of Higher Education has approved the Doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision.
The doctoral program in Counselor Education and Supervision is designed for students who hold a masters degree from a CACREP-accredited counseling program, a degree in counseling, or a degree in a related field. Students are expected to attain advanced level competence in counseling, supervision, teaching, research, and advocacy and leadership. Teaching, supervision, practicum, and internship experiences are required. The doctoral program requires passing of the doctoral written and oral comprehensive examinations, and completion of a capstone/dissertation project. The program is designed to be completed in 8 semesters, taking six hours per semester. Classes will be held on Tuesdays for the entire cohort period and will be taught during the day and/or evening.
Students in the program can expect to work closely with faculty. The Counselor Education and Supervision faculty are involved in scholarly research and service projects locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. The Counselor Education faculty have published extensively and are established leaders within the field.

The program is accepting applications for the Fall 2013 cohort by January 15th, 2013. Please review our web page at www.govst.edu/coe/counselingdoctorate for details on admission criteria.
