Death, Dying, and the Near-Death Experience:
What Every Health Care Professional Should Know

As many as 4% of Americans have experienced a Near-Death Experience, and up to 75% of the bereaved report communications from deceased loved ones.  At this workshop, learn about these and other death-related events and how to help your clients successfully integrate them into their lives.

Who Should Attend

Counselors, Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, Hospice Workers, Nurses and other Medical Professionals, Ministers and Chaplains, Laypeople and Caregivers



Program Objectives



*        To educate participants about the frequency and nature of death-related experiences including death-bed experiences, After-Death Communications (ADC), and Near-Death Experiences (NDE).

*        To provide examples of the wide variety of death and grief practices of world cultures contrasted to those of traditional western-based American culture.

*        To educate and prepare health care professionals for end-of-life issues with clients and patients.

*        To provide compassionate interventions and strategies to help individuals successfully integrate death-related experience.

*        To provide interventions and strategies for helping couples and family systems after loss of a loved one.









Program Facilitators


Peggy Lesniewicz, Ph.D., LPCC-S, has 20 years of experience counseling victims of trauma and abuse and working at Hospice of NW Ohio as a bereavement counselor. An instructor in the Graduate Mental Health & School Counseling Program at BGSU, she teaches, among other courses, "Integrating Spirituality and Religion into Counseling." Dr. Lesniewicz has taught workshops on Near-Death Experiences, Ethics and Spirituality, and other mental health issues.

Linda Smith, M.A., PC, counsels clients on issues related to grief from death, divorce, illness, job loss, and other life changes. A long-time educator and trainer, she is also the Associate Dean at the UT Honors College. Her non-counseling credentials include a law degree and a PhD in English literature. She teaches courses and workshops dealing with the Near-Death and other death-related experiences, mysticism and spirituality, the role of personality in the grief process, suffering and personal growth, and the use of the expressive arts in loss and trauma.
