The University of Arizona, a Research I Institution, is pleased to announce a tenure-track opening for an Assistant Professor position in counseling and rehabilitation. The appointment begins August 2012. The rehabilitation counseling program, ranked 6th in the nation by the U.S. News and World Report, offers an upper division CORE registry undergraduate degree, a CORE Accredited Masters of Arts, and doctorate in Rehabilitation Counseling. The rehabilitation program currently has external funding to provide for masters and doctoral student scholarships and offers distance and continuing education programs. The faculty appreciates and celebrates a diverse student body, especially with respect to disability.
The person hired in this position will have the opportunity to work with an outstanding faculty who are leaders in the field. Faculty members are highly collaborative; embrace new models of disability and new practices in service delivery; engage in community service at the local, state, national, and international levels to enhance student learning and contribute to the community; and inform service delivery and educational practices through their active engagement in research and publication. Opportunities for leadership development are available and encouraged.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful applicant will be responsible to teach undergraduate and graduate coursework. The new faculty will also facilitate advising and mentoring of students, clinical supervision, and course development. Applicants should demonstrate a clear vision of their research direction, including clinical applications, and success working in interdisciplinary teams. In addition, the successful applicant is expected to engage in an active program of research, including grant development and management, and to participate in service activities at the community, university, state, national and/or international levels.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Earned Doctoral degree from an accredited institution in Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Mental Health Counseling, or a closely related profession. A.B.D. close to completion of degree will also be considered.
* CRC certified or eligible for the CRC credential.
* Strong potential for funded research.
* Professional experience in the field of rehabilitation counseling and/or mental health.
* Excellent teaching and clinical supervision skills.
* Ability to serve as a strong mentor to doctoral students.
* Commitment to participation in interdisciplinary collaborations, including interdisciplinary research.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience with CORE and CACREP.
* Experience and/or research in mental health or psychiatric rehabilitation.
* Familiarity with distance education.
* Ability to teach a variety of courses in the fields of rehabilitation counseling and mental health counseling, including marriage and family therapy, diagnosis and treatment planning, and/or psychiatric rehabilitation.
* Experience working with diverse students and staff.
