UNC – Chapel Hill: Division of Rehabilitation Counseling and Psychology

Position: Tenure Track Assistant or Associate Professor

The University of North Carolina, Department of Allied Health Sciences, is inviting applications for a tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor position in its Division of Rehabilitation Counseling and Psychology.  The Department of Allied Health Sciences is part of the UNC School of Medicine and is located on the University’s main campus in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The Division of Rehabilitation Counseling and Psychology provides outstanding opportunities and support for research, teaching, and clinical practice in a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary environment. There is a strong potential for collaboration within AHS, the UNC School of Medicine and with other departments at UNC.   Our program has been a part of UNC for over 45 years. We currently have 40 full-time master’s students, we are RSA-funded, and we offer innovative opportunities for students to focus on developmental disabilities and/or psychiatric disabilities. Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include conducting research, teaching and advising master’s level graduate students in the Division of Rehabilitation Counseling and Psychology. Candidates with teaching expertise in the following areas will be given particular consideration: Job Placement/Vocational Rehabilitation; Medical and Psychosocial Aspects of Disability; Introduction to Rehabilitation Counseling and Co-Occurring Disorders. Applicants should have a doctorate in Rehabilitation Counselor Education, Rehabilitation Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Rehabilitation Psychology, or a closely related field.  ABD will be considered; the CRC credential or eligibility is required.

The Division of Rehabilitation Counseling and Psychology curriculum includes specializations in developmental and psychiatric disabilities. The Assistant/Associate Professor position requires a focus in rehabilitation counseling practice across a range of disability and multicultural populations, but with specific attention to one of these two areas. We are especially interested in someone who can contribute to our Psychiatric Disabilities specialization.

Qualifications Required
• PhD (or ABD) in Rehabilitation Counselor Education, Rehabilitation Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Rehabilitation Psychology, or a closely related field.
• Evidence of potential for a strong program of federally funded research.
• Successful experience supervising or teaching masters students in counseling or psychology program.
• Experience providing rehabilitation services to people with disabilities.
• Strong potential for teaching and student mentoring in rehabilitation counseling.
• CRC credential or eligibility to sit for the CRC exam.

Qualifications Preferred
• Current CRC credential.
• Strong record of publication and funded research.
• Experience serving persons with developmental and/or psychiatric disabilities.
• Experience with individuals across the spectrum of disabilities with an emphasis on community inclusion.
• Eligible for professional licensure as Licensed Professional Counselor or Licensed Addictions Specialist.
