Department of Counseling and Human Services

Assistant Professor in Clinical Mental Health Counseling

The Johns Hopkins University (JHU) School of Education invites applications for a "promotion-track" faculty position in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program beginning January 1, 2012. We seek applicants who have mental health counseling experience, the potential for scholarly productivity, strong research skills, and are passionate about "social justice" and community-based counseling.

As one of nine schools within one of the most highly regarded and well-funded research institutions in the world, the top-ranked JHU School of Education is poised to make investments in scholars and researchers capable of reforming 21st century education and strengthening communities. Our goal is for scholars to conduct rigorous research, development, and graduate education in an environment of entrepreneurship and innovation, without many of the boundaries and constraints typical of many university settings.

Candidates should have an earned doctorate degree in counselor education with emphasis in clinical mental health counseling, community counseling or a closely related field; have experience in or demonstrate potential to establish a research and publication record; potential for the establishment of an externally funded research program; evidence of strong potential for excellence in college teaching, with preference for experience at the graduate level in counseling and related courses; demonstrated experience working with diverse client populations; and demonstrate a willingness to collaborate and build partnerships with local community agencies. Desired qualifications include: (1) eligibility for professional counselor licensure in Maryland; (2) demonstrated experience in grant preparations; (3) graduate of CACREP accredited doctoral program; and (4) demonstrated service in national counseling organizations

Review of applications will begin immediately and applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Preference will be given to applicants at the assistant professor level although exceptional candidates at a higher rank will be considered.
