COUNSELOR EDUCATION - School Counseling Position Description

Counselor Education: The Department of Counselor Education at the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater seeks a highly qualified candidate to fill a full-time, tenure-track position in the Master of Science Program in Counseling, School emphasis, at the rank of assistant or associate professor. Responsibilities include teaching core courses in counselor education, as well as courses in the school counseling emphasis; providing service to the university, including participating in department leadership, advising of students, providing community service; supervision of practicum students and interns; implementing program requirements; and participating in research and grant writing activities.  Ability to infuse technology into instruction, e.g., web-based course offerings is preferred.  Experience counseling diverse populations and a commitment to work with non-traditional students are essential to this position. Faculty at UW-Whitewater may be required to teach online and hybrid courses, weekend and evening classes and provide service to the university and community in a variety of modalities.

QUALIFICATIONS:  An earned doctorate in counselor education, counseling psychology or a related field with school counseling experience strongly preferred. Applicants who are ABD will be considered with expectation that the doctorate will be completed within the first year of hire. Candidates should have the potential to develop or maintain: a clear research agenda, excellence in instruction, and the capacity to attract external funding. Commitment to social justice is imperative. Research agendas and interest in methodologies of counseling diverse populations is especially being sought.  Fluency in Spanish would be an asset.

THE COUNSELOR EDUCATION DEPARTMENT has 6 full-time faculty members, a master's level counseling lab manager and a doctoral intern.
