West Chester University's Department of Counselor Education seeks candidates to fill an Assistant Professor faculty position beginning August, 2012.  The Department of Counselor Education is accredited by CACREP in the specialty areas of School Counseling and Student Affairs. Counselor Education is one of five departments that comprise West Chester University's College of Education. The College of Education is committed to serving urban populations, as well as advancing the University's goal of developing online and distance education initiatives. West Chester University offers competitive salary and benefits.

Responsibilities: Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: a) teaching graduate counselor education courses, b) providing counseling supervision; c) committing to a defined program of research; d) advising students; and e) actively participating in departmental activities, university committees, and professional counseling organizations. The selected candidate will serve a nine-month, tenure track appointment with additional summer teaching opportunities contingent upon student demand.

Requirements: Applicants must have an earned doctorate in Counselor Education, or a closely related field; preference will be given to graduates of CACREP accredited programs. ABD candidates will be considered, but must provide evidence that they are near completion of the doctorate. Candidates should demonstrate evidence of a commitment to excellence in teaching and expertise in counselor training and supervision. Successful candidates must be qualified to teach core counseling courses; preference will be given to candidates who are also qualified to teach courses in student affairs and/or school counseling specialty areas.  Preference will be given to candidates who hold, or are eligible for, counseling licensure and/or school counseling certification. Finally, successful candidates should demonstrate interest in, and promise of, an active program of research.


Finalists must successfully complete an interview process which includes a teaching demonstration. References with contact information will be required prior to the interview.


Applicants must submit 1.) a letter of interest that addresses position requirements and responsibilities, 2.) a curriculum vitae, and 3.) three letters of recommendation.  Applicants granted an on-campus interview will be required to submit official undergraduate and graduate transcripts.
