ASSISTANT PROFESSOR - COUNSELOR EDUCATION

The SUNY College at Oneonta invites applications for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor beginning August 2011.  The initial appointment will be for two years.  The expectations include teaching, research, student advisement, college service, and continuing professional development. The College at Oneonta has 5800 students and 450 faculty and offers over 60 undergraduate majors and 9 graduate programs.  The student to faculty ratio is approximately 17:1.  In the  U.S. News rankings of "America's Best Colleges 2011," SUNY Oneonta received its highest ranking ever:  9th among public colleges and 3rd for undergraduate teaching among master's-granting universities in the North.  The Division of Education is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). The Department of Educational Psychology, Counseling and Special Education has eleven faculty members, offers graduate programs in school counseling and special education, and teaches courses in learning, development and special education for elementary and secondary education majors. Duties:  Teach in both the Master's program and the Certificate of Advanced Study program in Counselor Education.

Required Qualifications:  Earned doctorate in Counselor Education, or a closely related field (ABD considered) (must provide evidence degree will be completed at time of appointment).  Must have ability to teach core counseling courses as well as courses in the specialty area of school counseling; evidence of commitment to excellence in teaching and expertise in counselor training and supervision; experience as a school counselor and demonstrated interest in an active program of research. 

Preferred:  Preference will be given to graduates of CACREP accredited programs, and/or candidates with certification as a professional school counselor.  Also, preference will be given to candidates with:  experience as a school counselor at the elementary level; experience teaching at the graduate level; skilled in writing and using APA style; a beginning record of scholarly output; and, some experience with online learning.  Experience with diverse populations, and/or teaching pedagogies and/or multicultural teaching experience is preferred.  
  
Finalists must successfully complete an interview process which will include a teaching demonstration.
