Job Description


 *   Teach face-to-face and online graduate courses in counselor education, such as substance abuse, clinical assessment, career counseling and development, theories and techniques of counseling;
 *   Integrate instructional technologies into the curriculum;
 *   Mentor/advise graduate students (i.e., master’s and Ph.D. levels);
 *   Provide consultation on both qualitative and quantitative dissertation research;
 *   Establish a scholarly research, grant-writing, and publication record with impact for counseling and counselor education, aligned with a research extensive university;
 *   Collaborate across disciplines and across local, national, and international boundaries;
 *   Participate in the design of a teaching and research School – College – Community  Collaboration (SC3) Counseling Clinic with the goals of advancing the counseling field by: (a) leveraging emerging technologies to design and deliver educationally and developmentally based clinical interventions  to marginalized populations through a blending of face-to-face and virtual SC3 contexts; and (b) developing a research-based service delivery and advocacy model for the SC3 Clinic
 *   Participate in public service and outreach efforts related to counseling at local, national, and international levels;
 *   Collaborate with teacher preparation programs and other disciplines across the college as appropriate and needed;
 *   Assist in department and college governance and outreach.




Required qualifications:

Earned doctorate in counselor education or closely related area; experience in schools and/or school counseling; evidence of effective teaching and supervision; appropriate professional memberships and identity as a counselor/counselor educator; proven scholarly research and publication record associated with a research extensive university or the potential to establish such a record; understanding of the changing nature of counseling and counselor education based on cultural diversity and emerging technologies; and commitment to using emerging technology in teaching (including online instruction), research, and service.



Preferred qualifications:

Special consideration will be given to applicants with (a) doctoral degree from a CACREP accredited program; (b) evidence of and commitment to providing counseling services to culturally diverse and marginalized groups and across school – community settings; and (c) potential for successful grant seeking and acquisition.

The mission of the Department of Curriculum, Instruction & Counselor Education (CICE) is to develop professional educators committed to life-long learning through theory, research, and reflective practice.


The Counselor Education Program offers CACREP accredited master’s degrees in school counseling, college counseling and student development, and clinical mental health counseling. The CACREP-accredited doctoral degree is in counseling and counselor education. There currently are 5 full-time faculty and approximately 100 students across the four programs.

The Counselor Education program at NC State shares the University’s land grant Mission. Through our Scientist-Practitioner School – College – Community Collaboration (SC3) Model, we train culturally competent counselor s and counselor educators who are able to work collaboratively across settings to effectively guide and advocate for the academic, career, and personal-social development of children, adults, families, and communities. Our Vision is to push forward the frontiers of knowledge:  Advanced video, computer, and networking technologies do and will continue to link Counselor Education graduate students and faculty with regional, state, national, and international partners in teaching, research, and service endeavors designed to offer hope to persons with the least access to educational and career opportunities afforded by life in the 21st century.
