This free lecture is likely to be of interest to many in the counselor education program.
I would especially like to encourage school counseling students to attend.

Ohio University will host Steve Perry, CNN's education contributor, at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, in Baker University Center Ballroom.
Perry is the author bestselling books such as "Raggedy Schools: The Untold Truth" and "Man Up! Nobody is Coming to Save Us." He is also the creator of Capital Prep, recognized by U.S. News and World Report as one of America's best high schools and featured on CNN's "Black in America" as one of the solutions to solving the educational achievement gap.
Perry is expected to tackle issues such as the discrepancy in the schooling system to personal responsibility to educational reform.
"His work primarily looks at schools and marginalized equity issues," said Winsome Chunnu, assistant director of the multicultural center.
Chunnu also mentioned the importance of good teachers as a potential topic Perry might talk about.
"I expect him to talk about graduation rates and the importance of great teachers," said Chunnu. "Irrespective of socioeconomic factors, having good teachers can make the difference between students going to college or not."
Chunnu also stressed how vital it is for college students to attend the lecture.
"Equity in schools filters into the college level at one point or the other," Chunnu said. "Education is the foundation of society. It's a tell tale sign of where society is going. He (Perry) definitely has a deep understanding about that."
The free talk is sponsored by the Multicultural Center and Black Student Cultural Programming Board.
