Dear Colleagues and Friends,

I wanted to share this with everyone who is planning on attending ACES in Nashville this October. It's a preview of a "regular's" view. I hope you will find it helpful. (Of course, there are many more restaurants and attractions than the ones I have mentioned, but these are my favorites and places that we always take our visitors.)

ATTRACTIONS
I would highly suggest making it to the Grand Ol Opry Show. However, it's typically a very full house. So if you are interested, try to get/order tickets early (It does not really matter who is performing; the experience is always wonderful); Andrew Jackson's home, the Parthenon (a Trolley Tour stop), Opry Museum, Belle Meade Plantation, the Cheekwood Botanical Gardens (probably great if we are changing colors by then); Centennial Park (a Trolley Tour stop)

TROLLEY TOUR: A PREVIEW OF THE CITY
If you want a preview of the city, GO! You do need to purchase tickets and usually it's a good idea to book before the date you are considering because here is another one that books up quickly. http://www.nashvillesightseeing.com/?event=offer.detail&offerId=7450 I would suggest doing this tour as soon as possible.

MUSIC ON BROADWAY
If you want to listen to the music AND have a seat, the bands on Broadway typically have four hour shifts starting at 2 pm (everyday, including Sunday). You are likely NOT to have a place to sit after 9 pm, however you will have a LOT of fun. TOOTSIES is where the stars hang out, although I have not managed to see them. Go there. -- If you ever wanted to wear your cowboy or cowgirl hat, now is the time. Get the dust off of it, bring it and wear it. You'll fit right in!

WINERIES
If you are interested in wineries, Beachaven is a great one in Clarksville, but this would be about a 30 min trip outside Nashville.

SHOPPING
Ladies, there are some fine boutiques worth exploring (try Studio 615). Fly Fishing Men and Women, you might enjoy the Cumberland Transit. Both are on West End Ave, near Vanderbilt and close to the Parthenon, the Pancake Pantry.

RESTAURANTS (again, these are my favorites)
Downtown: Melting Pot (a chain); Big River Grille & Brewing Works (across from the Hardrock Cafe) - great if you are hungry and still want to be near music. Of course, if you go on the Trolley Tours, the tour guides will point our their favorites as well.

Vanderbilt area: Pancake Pantry (famous, but you may have a 2 hour wait if you go for breakfast), Tin Angel (quaint, great atmosphere), Maggianno's (chain), Jackson's Bar and Grill (very trendy wine bar and cafe, across from Pancake Pantry), Dan McGuinness (often bands play here; one of my favorites)

DRIVING AND CAB INFORMATION
You cannot WALK to the above mentioned attractions from Opry Hotel. It's pretty simple to drive, however sometimes it's easy to get mixed up on I40/I65. My suggestion would be to Cab It, unless you want to take trips out to Andrew Jackson's home, Belle Meade Plantation, the Cheekwood Botanical Gardens. (You must pay for Parking at the Opry Hotel unless ACES is cutting us a deal. :->)

If you plan on going to Grand Ol Opry show (which I think you should), if the show is at the Opry Theatre and NOT the Ryman, you are in luck. You can walk from hotel. If it is at the Ryman, this is downtown and you will need to drive or cab. However, I would suggest that you head to the bands on Broadway after the show. Enjoy the Night Life; well not too much if you need to present in the morning.

Drivers: Broadway is the main music strip. At 1st and Broadway you can catch the Trolley, and see the beautiful Cumberland River (one of my husband's fly fishing rivers). If you are going the other way, towards Vanderbilt, once you cross I40, the road you are on turns into West End (Broadway swerves). You are now near Vanderbilt University, as well as the Parthenon, Centennial Park.

WEATHER
I almost forgot! Watch, I will give you a prediction of the weather report, and come October, I'll be completely wrong. So, based upon my 8 years living here, the weather should be gorgeous! Maybe a sweater during the day time, and light jacket at night. * I do not put my capris away until the beginning of November; and I still go fly fishing with my husband.
