Session I: Jennifer Hayward, MSW, LICDC, Matrix Psychological Services

What is a sex addict? How do I diagnose a person with Sex Addiction, what are the differential diagnoses, what are the co-existing conditions, what are the causes, and how do I start the treatment process?  These and many other prevalence and statistical questions will be covered in this session introducing the participant to this new and difficult area of addictions.  A basic understanding of chemical dependency and the treatment of other addictions will be helpful to attendees.  Sex Addicts Anonymous will be discussed, along with the specific differences with treating a sex addict.



Session II:  Michael Lewis, M.A., LPCC-S, Director of Counseling & Wellness at  Ohio Dominican University

Problematic internet use has become increasingly common in clinical treatment settings and can create negative consequences in multiple areas of a person's life such as relationships, marriages, family life, career, academics, finances, self-worth, spirituality, and emotional stability.  Those challenged by addictive online use often report an inability to discontinue use despite recognizing and experiencing an ongoing struggle that can elicit shame, guilt, compulsiveness, despair, and isolation. This brief introductory workshop will focus on the most common online addictions such as pornography, gambling, gaming, social networking/chatting, compulsive shopping, and compulsive surfing, and will offer ways to assess, diagnose, and treat this issue.

 Intended Audience:

 *   Mental health therapists
 *   Chemical dependency counselors
 *   Social workers
 *   Psychologists
 *   Church clergy
 *   Graduate students enrolled in clinical programs

The Wellness Institute is an approved provider for CEU's for Counselors and Social Workers by the CSWMFT Board (Provider #RCS031102). This day is approved for 3 CEU's per session or a total of 6 for both sessions.
