ANNUAL STARTING SALARY:  $45,901

The  primary  responsibility  for  this  position  is  to  employ 
effective
supervision  strategies  for  offenders  placed  on  intensive 
 supervision
community  control  by  the court; monitor offenders’ compliance with 
court
ordered conditions to determine the effectiveness of probation 
supervision;
refer   offenders   to   social  resources  in  the  community; 
 facilitate
rehabilitation;  enforce  court  orders;  make recommendations to the 
court
concerning  community  control  cases;  perform related duties as 
required.
This   position   directly  reports  to  the  Classification  Manager 
 with
functional reporting requirements to the Senior Probation Officer.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
     Reviews  information  regarding  new  cases;  schedules  initial 
case
     planning  meeting  with offenders; prepares offender case 
supervision
     plans,  requirements  and  expectations;  determines offender 
monthly
     financial requirements,
        to  include  data  derived  from  multiple  sources-  e.g. 
 intake
     information,  employment  records etc. and ensures that offenders 
are
     provided  the opportunity for clear understanding of their 
conditions
     of community control.
     Summarizes   offender   information  into  progress  notes; 
 prepares
     summaries  regarding  offenders  for  the  court’s  review; 
 prepares
     presentence   investigation   reports  per  court’s  order; 
 prepares
     violation reports regarding offender’s non compliance with 
conditions
     of community control.
     Maintains  strict  confidentiality  regarding  offenders, 
 associated
     files, drug test results and database information.
     Assesses  offender  risk  level  to determine recommendations for 
the
     appropriate  level  of  supervision  and  areas  of need for 
behavior
     modification.
     Staffs   cases   with  manager  and  recommends  actions  to 
 address
     non-compliance of community control conditions.
     Provides  positive  reinforcement  to offenders where appropriate 
for
     compliance  with  the  conditions  of  probation  and sets a 
positive
     example for offenders to follow.
     Schedules  and attends administrative/court hearings for offenders 
to
     address non-compliance.
     Reviews   case   plan   compliance   with  offenders  through 
 direct
     interaction  in  an  office  and field environment to assess 
progress
     with conditions of community control.
     Makes  referrals  to  community resources to address offenders’ 
needs
     and facilitate behavior modification.
     Prepares  official  documentation for the court and affected 
parties-
     e.g. judges, prosecutors, attorneys, offenders.
     Corresponds  with  community  resource  providers/collateral 
contacts
     concerning progress of offenders.
     Reviews  client information for verification and adherence to 
court’s
     order  via  periodic  meetings,  correspondence,  field 
 contacts 
and
     criminal  record  checks  e.g. Sheriff’s intake information, 
Clerk 
of
     courts information,
        varied arrest and criminal charge databases.
     Arrests and transports offenders in violation of community control.
     Obtains DNA samples and fingerprints from offenders.
     Monitors collection of urine samples for drug screens of offenders.
     Occasionally  performs searches of offenders and their residences 
for
     suspected non-compliance.
     Liaisons with Law Enforcement Agencies and may provide arrest 
support
     Attends  and  participates  in  court  hearings  on  offender 
related
     matters e.g. dispositions, bond hearings, revocations etc.
     Instructs,   trains   and   mentors  probation/intensive 
 supervision
     officers.
     Attends on and off site job training.
     Performs other related duties as required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
     Ability  to  exert  moderate  physical effort from tasks; may 
involve
     extended  periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. This 
position
     may  involve  running,  infrequent  lifting, carrying, pushing 
and/or
     pulling of objects
        and materials of moderate to heavy weight (50 pounds).
     Ability to physically handle resistive/assaultive individuals.
     Ability to perform office and field arrests.
     Ability to work late hours, evenings and weekends.
     Performance  of  essential functions requires exposure to accused 
and
     convicted criminal offenders.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:  Degree from an accredited four (4) year College or 
University in
Social  Sciences,  Psychology,  Sociology  or  Criminology;   One  (1) 
year
experience  involving  probation,  parole,  or the community 
supervision of
offenders,
or   counseling   in   a   case   management  setting;   Good 
 written/oral
communication  skills;  Knowledge and application of computer systems; 
Must
hold and maintain a valid Ohio Driver’s License.

Preferred:   Three (3) years experience involving probation, parole, or 
the
community  supervision  of  offenders,  or  counseling in a case 
management
setting.
