SHIPPENSBURG UNIVERSITY

The Department of Counseling and College Student Personnel seeks applicants to fill one tenure-track, Assistant Professor faculty position beginning August 2011. The Department is accredited by CACREP in three specialty areas: School Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and College Counseling/College Student Personnel. Shippensburg University is located in south central Pennsylvania, and is one of 14 PASSHE universities.

Requirements: Applicants must possess at the time of application an earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Counseling from an accredited institution. Preferences given to CACREP program graduates, doctorate in Counselor Education or Counselor Education and Supervision, NCC, licensed as a professional counselor and/or certification as a professional school counselor. All applicants must have a professional orientation and identity as a professional counselor and must have documented relevant experience and expertise in School Counseling and possibly other content areas to serve the generalist needs of our other programs.

A demonstration of teaching effectiveness will be required as part of the on-campus interview. Demonstrated personal and professional commitment to diversity and the ability to work collegially with department members and the campus community are essential. A successful on-campus interview is also required.

Responsibilities: The successful applicant will be well prepared to assume responsibilities of the professoriate in general - teaching, service, and scholarship, more specifically, as a counselor educator. The Department is program-oriented, but seeks a candidate who can teach generalist courses in addition to those associated with School Counseling. Responsibilities include elementary and secondary school counselor education, expertise in supervision, productivity in mentoring student research; and successful experience teaching one or more of the following courses: career counseling, assessment, research methods, child and/or adolescent counseling, couples and family, grief and loss, and trauma. All counseling programs offer classes in the late afternoons and evenings. Some courses have hybrid or distance education delivery models available. Additional teaching opportunities are also available during summer terms and for weekend and evening-based certificate programs.

All candidates must submit a letter of interest specific to the requirements and responsibilities, curriculum vita, copies of undergraduate and graduate transcripts, and the names and contact information of three references (one must be a non-faculty supervisor). Applicants granted on-campus interviews will be required to submit official undergraduate and graduate transcripts. Please submit all requested information-preferably in one comprehensive parcel-to:

Dr. Todd Whitman, Search Committee Chairperson, Department of Counseling and College Student Personnel, Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania, 1871 Old Main Drive, Shippensburg, PA 17257-2299.

Review of applications will begin November 1, 2010, and will continue until the position is filled. Offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check. Candidates must also furnish proof of eligibility to work in the U.S upon appointment. Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Individuals from traditionally underrepresented populations are encouraged to apply.
