Appalachian State University, Reich College of Education, Department of Human Development and Psychological Counseling invites applications for four nine-month tenure track assistant professor positions in CACREP and COAMFTE accredited programs beginning August 2011. Completed applications must include a letter summarizing interest and "fit" for the position, curriculum vita, and the names, addresses, and telephone numbers of three references. Responsibilities include instruction in the indicated area, student advisement, curriculum development and possible on-line instruction and/or instruction at off-campus sites as well as an active program of scholarship and participation in service activities.
HPC offers MA programs in professional school counseling, marriage and family therapy, clinical mental health counseling and college student development, in addition to certificate programs in expressive arts therapy and addictions counseling. There are 16 full-time faculty members and 150 graduate students.
Initial review of completed applications will begin October 22, 2010 and positions will remain open until filled. Individuals with disabilities may request accommodations in the application process by contacting Dr. Lee Baruth (baruthlg at appstate.edu). A criminal background check will be required for all finalists invited to campus for an interview. Documentation of identity and employability of the applicant will be required before the hiring process is completed.

Marriage and Family Therapy (1 position)
A doctorate (completed by August 2011) in Marriage and Family Therapy or related field is required along with AAMFT approved supervisor or supervisor candidate status. Preferred: Experience teaching core MFT courses and other counselor education courses; MFT licensure in NC or eligibility for licensure.
Clinical Mental Health Counseling (1 position)
A doctorate(completed by August 2011) in counselor education or related field with focus in mental health counseling, and full-time professional experience as a counselor are required. Candidates must be eligible to become NC Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or equivalent mental health licensed practitioner. Experience teaching expressive arts therapy and registration as an expressive arts therapist (REAT) or eligibility to become REAT is required. Preferred: Strong clinical and supervisory experience and evidence of postsecondary teaching ability.
Professional School Counseling (2 positions)
A doctorate (completed by August 2011) in counselor education or related field with a focus in school counseling, and a minimum of two years full time school counseling experience are required.
Candidate must be eligible for North Carolina licensure. The ability to teach school counseling specialty courses (i.e., introduction, seminar, consultation, legal & ethical) and provide supervision for practicum and internship also are required. Preferred: ability to teach child/adolescent therapy, testing, and career skills.
