Show, by your actions, that you choose peace over war, freedom over oppression, voice over silence, service over self-interest, respect over advantage, cooperation over competition, action over passivity, diversity over uniformity, and justice over all.

Subject: Assistance for Doctoral Research Study

Hi
Barbara Herlihy and I contacted you during the spring regarding our survey which we have had very limited success in getting a response from doctoral students for our research. We would greatly appreciate it if you would again request doctoral student participation with the below email.
Thanks

Hi

At one point in your doctoral studies, you will be conducting research. A part of your learning process is participating in research. Participating in a research can create also great karma for your own research :)

Doctoral students in counselor education programs are expected to perform in a variety of roles, yet there is almost no research that investigates how they experience these multiple roles. Dr. Barbara Herlihy and I are conducting a research study on Doctoral Students and Multiple Roles. This study has been approved by the Institutional Review Board at the University of New Orleans.

Your participation will involve completing an electronic survey entitled the Doctoral Students and Multiple Roles Survey (DSMRS). The DSMRS will take approximately 15 to 20 minutes. In the survey we ask you to (1) provide some demographic information and (2) indicate the extent to which you understand and feel confident about your ability to perform various roles. You may be asked to complete this survey again in future years as you progress through your doctoral journey. For this reason, we ask you to provide the last 4 numbers of your university ID number, for tracking purposes only. We will make no attempt to match the numbers with your names or to identify you in any other way. We suggest that you delete your temporary internet files and close the browser after submitting the survey. In agreeing to participate in this study, you understand that:

a) There are no known physical or psychological risks associated with participation in this study.

b) All data will be kept strictly confidential and no data on individual participants or universities will be reported at any time.

c) All documentation related to this study will be stored in a locked file cabinet in a locked office.

d) Three years after completion of the research project, all records will be destroyed.

e) Participation in this study is voluntary.

f) Refusal or withdrawal will not result in a penalty or loss of benefits of any kind.

g) Your consent can be withdrawn at any time without consequence.

h) You have a right to refuse to participate or discontinue your participation at any time.

As in most internet communication, there may be some record of exchange in your cache somewhere on your computer system or internet service provider's log file. As a precaution, we suggest that you clean out your temporary internet files and close your browser after submitting your survey. If you are willing to assist us with this important part of our study, please click the following link to connect to the DSMRS:

If you are not connected automatically, then you can cut and paste the link into the address box on your web browser and press enter.

Completing the electronic submission of the survey will indicate your consent for participation in this study. Please contact Dr. Ann O'Hanlon (504-280-3990) at the University of New Orleans for answers to questions about this research, your rights as a human subject, and your concerns regarding a research-related injury. If you have any questions concerning the research study, please contact me at bherlihy at uno.edu<mailto:bherlihy at uno.edu> (280-6222) or Roxane Dufrene at rdufren1 at uno.edu<mailto:rdufren1 at uno.edu> (504-280-7434).

Thank you for your consideration and participation.

Sincerely,
