Subject: Call for Manuscripts: Journal of Minority Disability Research and Practice

Dear NCRE Members,

A key partner of NCRE and a vital contributor to rehabilitation counseling practice and research is the National Association of Multicultural Rehabilitation Counselors (NAMRC). NAMRC is collaborating with the Journal of Minority Disability Research and Practice on publishing a special issue on "Culturally Competent Best Practices in Rehabilitation Services." A Call for Submissions document is on attachment. I encourage you to contribute to this important work.

Best wishes,
Charles (Chuck) Edmund Degeneffe

Special Issue of the Journal of Minority Disability Research and Practice

The Journal of Minority Disability Research and Practice is a NIDRR funded journal that focuses on building the capacity of research focused on issues relevant to culturally diverse research and practice in the field of rehabilitation. It is currently housed at Texas Southern University and Editor, Dr. Irvine Epps, will be publishing a special issue in the spring of 2011 focused on “Culturally Competent Best Practices in Rehabilitation Services.” This issue is designed to highlight “best practices” research that focuses on services to culturally diverse individuals with disabilities.

The guest editor of this special issue will be Dr. Keith Wilson. If you are interested in submitting a manuscript, please prepare a one-page (500 word
maximum) description of your manuscript that includes: title, type of article (empirical or conceptual), study objective, methods, statement of anticipated contribution to the literature, and preview of potential practitioner/knowledge translation implications. Please send the description to Dr. Chandra Donnell
(chandra.donnell at unt.edu) no later than December 17, 2010.

This special issue of JMDRP will include up to five (5) empirical and one (1) conceptual manuscript from the national and international research community that pose strategies and solutions toward the best practices, including evidenced based practices, in the service delivery for persons from culturally- ethnically diverse populations. All manuscripts must include in the Discussion Section an explicit discussion of (1) implications for practitioners AND (2) applicable knowledge translation recommendations. Manuscripts should be no more than 25 pages in length, including references.

Authors will be notified of acceptance of their proposed manuscript by December 31, 2010, with the final manuscript due by February 15, 2011.
Publication decisions will be based on relevance to practice, quality of methodology, and contribution to existing literature. Manuscripts will be given blind, peer review, and authors will be provided with timely and constructive feedback. The invitation to submit a manuscript is not a guarantee of
acceptance for the special issue.

If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact us, and please pass this information along to your colleagues. We look forward to receiving the statement describing your proposed manuscript.
