Subject: APA Manual error
FYI.The first printing of the Publication Manual of the American
Psychology, 6th edition, contains several errors. At the bottom of this
message is recent email from a senior editor at the APA. Some of the errors
that have been corrected in the second printing can be found on APA's
Supplemental Materials page:
http://www.apastyle.org/manual/supplement/index.aspx .
A quick way to determine if you purchased the first printing is to look at
the sample one-experiment paper (figure 2.1). If it has the words "Running
head:" in the header at the top of every page, then you have the wrong
version.
This is the correct version of the sample paper:
http://www.apastyle.org/manual/related/sample-experiment-paper-1.pdf
Unfortunately we did purchase the 1st printing for the library. Stay
tuned. We will purchase a couple of new editions for the Library soon.
Please note: The APA Style Blog is: http://blog.apastyle.org/ not the
address given in the e-mail.

Subject: Re: APA Publication Manual 6th edition - errors--The Facts
Hello:
I'm writing in response to a post last week regarding errors in the sixth
edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association.
The person who posted the comment warned that the Publication Manual
contains "many" errors and said that "some (but not all)" of those errors
had been corrected in a second printing. Please note that that information
is erroneous. The facts are as follows.
Despite multiple checks and balances, some errors occurred in the first
printing of the sixth edition of the Publication Manual. Although any error
is regrettable, the majority of those that occurred were limited to the
sample paper section. The substantive guidance in all other sections of the
book is correct and accurate as printed.
The sample paper section has been fully corrected. All corrected sample
papers are available online at www.apastyle.org <http://www.apastyle.org/>
and can be accessed by clicking on "Related Resources."
As with the fifth edition of the manual, corrections made to the first and
subsequent printings of the manual are posted online. The complete list of
errors that have been corrected in the second printing of the Publication
Manual can be found at www.apastyle.org by clicking on "Supplemental
Materials."
We urge you to download the corrected sample papers available on the
website. While you're there, take advantage of the free tutorials, FAQs,
and other instructional aids that we've developed to help readers transition
to the new edition of the Publication Manual.
You may also wish to visit the APA Style blog at
<http://www.apastyle.org/blog> www.apastyle.org/blog, where we interact with
readers daily to clarify difficult points of style.
We understand that the task of interpreting this and other style manuals
falls to this community. Many of you alerted us to these discrepancies
immediately after the sixth edition was released. We are grateful for your
patience and support as we remedy this error and move forward.
Best regards,
